Social Net-not-Working

I was giving my lil brother advice on some shit and instructed him to NEVER get comfortable with social networks. I blame social networks such as myspace, facebook, twitter, tagged, etc for most of our social problems we have today. I know its a bit drastic but hey, I feel like its true. Problem number 1 is the lack of confidence people have today I blame on the internet. A guy might not ever speak to a female EVER and he see her everyday but send her a message on facebook confessing his dying love to her. The computer gives people a sense of security and they get too comfortable and it disables them socially. You got grown ass men confessing love over the web like their in high school writing love notes. The pics that people take got them feeling like a model and myspace got EVERY nigga with a mic and a computer feeling like the next Lil Wayne. Back when social networks wasn't so popular, when it was only myspace and blackplanet, you could still bump into someone and have a great conversation. You could call somoene and they answered, not hit ignore and text you right back saying "wassup, you called?" People use to love talking on the phone for hours now you can't stay on the phone for 15 mins with somebody with out something magically popping up.

As the years go by, I believe that more and more people will get acoustomed to sending messages and not actually talking. The last few females I've talked to I NEVER talked to them on the phone. It was weird as hell talking to them on the phone and hearing their voice cause I was so use to texting them. In turn, didn't work. I'm not anti social networks because I still have my myspace, facebook, and twitter I just don't talk to people seriously on them. I told a girl NOT to talk to me on twitter and to text or call me. Thing is... I sent her a text saying that and she replied to me on twitter. *SLAPS FOREHEAD* thats over with. I'm trying my hardest to break away from the social networking and texting. Well not that drastic, just someone that I would want to potentially be serious with. I don't know how yall feel about it but I know that I blame social networking for the lack of communication verbally between people these days. Just my thoughts though. Try NOT texting for a week or deactivating your facebook for a couple weeks. See what happens. Peace.

eh, i do text a lot, but i love talking on the phone, i think that's the best way to get to know someone, through verbal communication, and physical encounter, not on the comp. but i guess it makes it easier to break the ice with someone, coming up to a dude in a bar is a way more nerve racking then "tweeting" him, lol. social networking sites are really the devil, but some people don't abuse them like you described.

I hate not talking on the phone with someone that I know I can talk on the phone with for hours. I mean.

I like communicating. REAL communication. Not social networks and whatnot.

So I will take you up on your challenge. No texting for a week. No facebook for 2 weeks.

Heyyy that is true. i caint sit here and lie, cause i do have myspace, facebook, twitter. but i feel watchu sayin right here. I be wonderin what happpend to good old face to face talks. I mean that is how you really get to kno a person & see what theyre really like besides the whole via internet / via phone " personality ".

i completely agree, because fact of the matter is - i cannot and will not take a dude seriously if he facebook chats/messages me, or tweets me tryna get to know me, and i've never met him. i laugh exit the box, and continue on with my day. i feel it takes more courage to come up to someone in person, and start a REAL conversation. power to the chivalrous man!

Good shit. Personally I agree this shit socialnetworking gets overwhelming to the poin I've deleted my Myspace afew times. But it's like the only way to get a holdof some folks. What ever happened to the days when people aint have all this, when we had house phones and AOL 5.0? LOL

Yesss..i miss the good times where someone you liked would call your house phone and you had to actually sit there cause you were using a phone with a cord on them and you just sat and talked to them..ahhh..good timess..
I don't be on Myspace at all like that anymore..not even Twitter lately..
I like reall communication as well..you get to really see how someone is. You can't get that sense from what emoticons they used and such and such..
Good Post..=)

YES! Social networking websites build an invisible confidence for people. Recently males who have went to school with me have hit me on Facebook confessing crushes. Twins on myspace will comment me but not say anything when they would see me in the hall. Bogus. I deactivated my Facebook and I realized the sincerity and falsehoods in people. And NO ONE talks on the phone so I do it in person...smh lawd.

I guess you should just sum it up as technology being the cause of lack of communication. As technology gets greater, the lack of communication will fail. And its not that far from it. As far as social networks, I agree 100%. I remember talking to this guy via myspace & just texting. then one day I happened to call him, and it was silence for about 10 minutes..well not rly. but he had nothing to say, which is sad. but the next day I have comments on myspace and txts frm him. Lol i just think its real weird how its easier to hold a convo through a text/social networks. than actually talking on the phone. I will never understand.
